Now that I'm back in Seattle I've been reconnecting with high school friends. Last night two of them hosted a small get-together that started out reasonable enough. Wine was consumed, Wii was played, and then things took a turn for the absurd when my most fun-loving and spontaneous friend decided to order up a limo so we could all go surprise some of our other friends who couldn't make it to our party because they live about a half-hour south of the city and have two babies.
So all of a sudden a dozen of us pile into the most monstrous of all monstrous vehicles on planet earth: the stretch hummer limousine. It was ridiculous! We crashed our friends, dragged them out of bed, and forced them - to their delight - to host an impromptu party for the next hour.
The night ended with a trip to one of Seattle's best known dumpster diving locales: The Essential Bakery. At 3am the dumpsters were half-empty but still yielded a haul of about ten loaves of our favorite flavors. I recommend the olive loaf.

Grist is an environmental news/humor website I read religiously. This is the most genius fundraising scheme I've ever seen.
It's soup season and Brendan and I have been experimenting, sometimes following recipes and sometimes not. I made a great black bean soup recently - accompanied by jalapeno scones - from my moosewood cookbook (which many of you gave me for my birthday a few years ago, thanks!).
In your ultimate dream house, what does your favorite room look like?
Since my entire dream house consists one room I had to answer this question! Of course, it's only one room in the technical sense... my dream house will be divided into several rooms. My dream house is a yurt in San Juan Islands. .. :) Ahhh some day! And since it's my dream yurt, let's say it looks something like this on the inside.
